JVOFI, BVPC Conducts Vegetable Processing Workshop

With the aim of transferring technology on how to process fresh vegetables, the Benguet Vegetable Processing Center (BVPC), funded by Philippine Australian Community Assistant Project (PACAP), in coordination with the Ecological Enhancement Unit of Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Inc. (JVOFI) conducted training-workshop at the Benguet Vegetable Processing Center (BVPC), Benguet State University (BSU) last May 12.

This workshop was attended by 10 La Trinidad Organic Product (LaTOP) members and facilitated by two resource speakers from the BVPC, Dr. Violeta B. Salda and Miss Cristine B. Esnera, assisted by the three other processing aides during the hands on training.

It had the objectives of identifying products that are appropriate for noodle production; identifying appropriate packaging materials and suppliers of equipments; and to acquire additional skills and technology in the proper product management through appropriate processing and packaging.

According to Corazon P. Sajonas, JVOFI Community Development Coordinator, the said activity titled "Vegetable-Enriched Canton Noodle Processing" aimed to minimize the problem on the loss of income due to pulling out of vegetable products like lettuce after three days of not being sold. She said that through the said training, these pull-outs can be processed to be re-used and re-sold for consumption.

Activities of the workshop include processing of these raw organic vegetables into other goods like pancit canton that can be marketed and shall be another source of income of the farmer-members of LaTOP.

Also, Sajonas said that the activity was a success because the trainees were able to cooperate and willing to learn.
