Kids enjoy Libreng Gupit

About 100 school children from Calvary Christian School benefited from the Libreng Gupit Outreach Program of the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc. (JVOFI) in partnership with the Splash Foundation, Inc. (SFI) on February 22, 2008.

This is part of the five-day comprehensive training of the JVOFI microfinance clients on cosmetology from February 18-22, 2008. A total of 58 clients graduated from the livelihood course on cosmetology.

Splash Foundation, Inc. program officer Liezel Mingoa said that the “Libreng Gupit” is conducted by the graduates as a sign of reciprocity for the free training. It also aims to inculcate the spirit of goodwill among the participants.

Mingoa encouraged the successful graduates to pursue an advanced training on cosmetology at Valenzuela City, Manila where participants can learn skills on basic facial cleaning and hair relaxing and straightening.

JVOFI President Reynaldo C. Bautista, Sr. said that the Foundation encouraged the participants to pursue their new knowledge and skills that would eventually uplift the living conditions of their families.

The cosmetology training covers the basic techniques on hair cutting styles, hair coloring, hot oil, manicure/pedicure, permanent hair winding, and foot spa. Aside from the acquired skills, the graduates were issued a certificate of completion and given a starter kit as an incentive for them to become self-reliant through home service.

Splash Foundation inc., based in Valenzuela City, is the social development arm of the Splash Corporation providing livelihood, health and educational programs, community service, and volunteer work.

Meanwhile, JVOFI is a non-government organization that works relentlessly in uplifting the lives of the Filipino communities it serves.
