JVOFI conducts 'Buntis Party' |

|
The event, attended by pregnant women from Victoria Village and nearby barangays, aimed to inculcate the importance of Maternal and Child Health Care and served as an avenue for the midwives to promote their services to the community. The birthing clinic is owned and operated by midwife Rebecca Dakiwas, one of the 28 midwives trained from Baguio City and nearby municipalities under the project entitled “Integrating Microfinance and Health Education to Empower Women and Reduce Poverty in Metro Baguio” funded by the US Agency for International Development - Private Sector Mobilization for Family Health and implemented by JVOFI. During the event, orientation on pre-natal and post-natal care and prevention of diarrhea and dehydration were conducted. Pre-natal services were also provided to pregnant women to ensure proper care and nutrition of the mother. The birthing clinic offers services on pre-natal, post natal, family planning, new born screening and normal birth delivery. In line with this, Dakiwas and another midwife, Nillie Fakat will undergo an intensive training on Internal Examination, Intravenous Insertion and Suturing at the Fabella Hospital in Sampaloc, Manila on February 5-20, 2007 in order to enhance their skills and knowledge on birth delivery through the assistance of the Foundation and PRISM.
The project, an innovation supported by USAID
under the PRISM, intends to help at least 1,500 women in Baguio City and
nearby municipalities to manage their families’ health and financial needs
and ultimately achieve a better quality of life. This will be done by
providing microfinance support to midwives to enable them to deliver
health services to JVOFI’s microfinance clients and the public at large.
