The One Town One Product Seal Quality was adopted by the municipality of La Trinidad under the Administrative Order No. 11 series of 2008 last March 18, 2009. The strawberry as one of the abundantly produced fresh product in the municipality was unanimously selected as the OTOP of La Trinidad.
One of the devised strategies to better promote the strawberry products of La Trinidad particularly wines, jams, preserves and other by products is the creation of an OTOP seal of quality which was initiated by the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation through the NZAID funding. The OTOP seal of quality were only given to those producers who have passed the quality standards of the OTOP Council.
March is the celebration of the Strawberry Festival wherein all the products made from strawberry are being showcased by individual producers and processors. During this celebration, through the initiative of the Municipal Agriculturist, Mrs. Fely Ticbaen, the assessed Strawberry Producers Association of La Trinidad (SPA- LT) members who passed the set quality standards were awarded the OTOP seal of quality.
All members of the OTOP Council which consisted the different heads from the different government offices particularly SB of La Trinidad, DTI, DOH, DOLE, BSU, DA, DAR, Chamber of Commerce, TESDA and other line agencies also graced the event.
The One Town One Product (OTOP) is a project of her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo which aims to stimulate local economic activity and SME growth, generate jobs and the development of the country side and sustaining the anti-poverty thrust of the government through the provision of technical assistance.
The occasion gave these entrepreneurs avenues to showcase their products at the same time meet other businessmen to ensure continuity of their trade.
