JVOFI renews partnership with Philip Morris
Chris Nelson, managing director of PMPMI hands the cheque to Mr. Reynaldo Bautista Sr., JVOFI president, during the ceremonial turnover on September 5, 2008 at Mayor Reynaldo Bautista’s office. The grant will be used to fund the project Tobacco Farmers’ Cooperative Organizing and Capability Building Program which aims to support the organizing and strengthening of tobacco farmers’ cooperatives or people’s organizations to implement the fuelwood plantation project in the provinces of La Union and Ilocos Sur. Certificate of Preferential Right
July 7, 2008 was indeed a happy day for residents of the Fishermen’s Village in San Fernando City, La Union. One of the agenda for their 2nd general assembly was the awarding of the Certificates of Preferential Right. This proves they have the right to own the units awarded to them at the Fisherman’s Village in exchange for the voluntary demolition of their houses. [ More ]
Upscaling organic farming in Benguet
Owing to the “cyanide scare” and a surge on the importation of cheaper vegetables from China which is pulling down domestic prices, vegetable farmers in Benguet now face the challenge of producing organic food as an alternative to non-organic vegetables that are either produced locally or imported.
